Our Water Polo Development Squad is designed to support those club members with less playing experience become more involved within the sport through developing their playing technique, tactical understanding of the game and aquatic fitness to cope with game-based scenarios. With all sessions based at the Lancaster University Sports Centre and led by Head Coach, Andy Wilson, the Development Squad members are expertly guided through sessions to promote a relaxed training environment and the improvement of our players through a committed approach to sessions. They also have the opportunity to train at Salt Ayre with Lancaster City to increase pool time and gain valuable experience that will allow them to improve their skills at a faster rate!
The Water Polo Development Squad training hours include 2 pool sessions per week, totalling 5 hours. We also offer a weekly strength & conditioning session for all LUSWP club members, whilst the Development Squad players are also able to participate in the gym sessions alongside the Water Polo Performance Squad.
Although not compulsory, the Development Squad players are also provided with the opportunity to play in competitive fixtures. As well as the top Development Squad players rewarded with some playing time with the Water Polo Performance Squad, there are friendly fixtures arranged throughout the year to provide a first taste of competitive water polo action.
